Every year, to mark the beginning of the Summer growing season we hold the Summer Solstice Sunrise Waffle Breakfast.
The ritual offering, followed by the excessive consumption, of the Waffles is beneficial in many ways to the Howell Tribe and the surrounding communities. First, the Waffle Breakfast insures that the coming Summer will bring a bountiful harvest from our gardens. The Waffles are also offered up to Albion, in the hopes that we will be worthy of success in the Fall, when we embark on our annual Hunt For The Mighty Abalone of Albion. And of course, we also call out the name of Ninkasi, the Sumerian Goddess of Brewing and Beer, so that our wert will ferment vigorously, that we may have sufficient quantites of her beverage to slake our thist as we labor in the fields or hunt in the ocean.
And finally, we give thanks to the Sun, in hopes that it will always be there to charge our RV Batteries.
This year the Waffle Offerings will be placed on the Sacred Folding Tables of Fertility at Sunrise, 5:47AM, on June 21. Note that this is a Monday this year, so it’s a great opportunity to get your week off to an early and productive start. However, don’t worry if you can’t be there to see the sun come up. We will be serving the waffles up to about 9AM.
Looking forward to seeing you in the driveway at Sunrise to celebrate the start of Summer!
